Taking the Plunge!

I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to achieving personal goals. This sometimes means I procrastinate even attempting something unless I know I can succeed. Sooooooo I have put off starting this blog since I know my time is limited and I might not be able to devote enough time to make it worthwhile. Well, I decided I was living a little too safely so I will take this first step even though there is serious risk that I will do my first post then the blog will just sit here and go stale. I suppose there are worse things that could happen!!!

So what will I blog about? What I know best of course...FOOD! With a sprinkling of gardening thrown in. Here is a photo from this summer that combines my two loves and reminds me that there is life after winter.

I'm so, so, so sorry for tracking you down here like some crazed Internet stalker, but I can't seem to post comments and questions here, where the recipe is.

So, first, let me say, it's terrible to hear about your coworker's husband. I'm sure your cherry limeaid cupcakes lit a light where it was needed.

I'd like to share that a bit, with some friends of my own who are grieving, and I had a question about the frosting and the cake.

Frosting first: The Magnolia buttercream recipe I have calls for a half cup of milk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Do I replace all that with cherry juice? Does it have a pretty strong cherry flavor like that?

Now cake: with the limeaid, will just the frozen concentrate minute maid limeaid stuff do, or is there something else I need to find? Also, the ingredients list mentions using 1/2 cup and a tsp of limeaid. Then the recipe says "Once the butter and sugar are creamed add in the limeade concentrate..." and then goes on to say, later, "Mix together the remainder of the limeade concentrate (about 3/4 cup) with about 1/2 cup powdered sugar..." So I'm a little confused. If I've only got a half cup and a couple of teaspoons to begin with, how much am I putting in the cake batter and how do I end up with three quarters of a cup later? Am I actually making the limeaid?

I'm so sorry for asking all these questions, and not even where the recipe is, but I want these guys to be perfect. You know how it is.

Also, if you wanted to totally delete that comment because it doesn't have anything to do with anything, and email me directly, my email is ChrispyBakes at gmail dot com. Again, sorry for busting in like this.

Well... I guess I forgot the third option, whereby I am ignored all together! Well, thanks anyway. I'm making these tomorrow, so I'll just operate under the assumption that you used a 12 ounce can of minute maid frozen limeade concentrate, and hope for the best, I guess. Thanks for the recipe; if my assumption plays out, I'll make sure to post clearer instructions when I start my blog.

Hi Chrispy! Sorry I didn't see your comment :-) I suppose I wasn't expecting it since this was my very first blog post outside of the group blog where you must have seen the recipe. The group blog WFD and More only accepts group comments. Sorry about that!

Boy I really goofed on the recipe..I'll have to go back and make a correction. I halved the recipe so got confused. I used 1/2 cup in the cake itself, then I think I used 2 Tbsp or maybe a bit more to pour over the top. Also, yes I replaced all of the milk & vanilla with the cherry juice. It had a distinct cherry flavor. But not overwhelming.

Hope your cupcakes come out great despite my terrible directions and so sorry for not seeing these comments. I thought they would come to my email. I need to double check on that!

Chrispy..I just went back and looked at the original recipe. And I had it written down right. For the cake you use 1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. For the stuff you pour over you use the REST of the large can which amounts to about 3/4 cup apparently. Geez...aren't you sorry you asked lol. I am a mess here :-) Totally screwed up my first commenter ever!! Good luck (despite my misguided efforts).

Ok. Whew. So, a large can is a 12 oz one, right? I actually don't get those down here, so I just grabbed two 6 oz cans.

Yes 12 oz..I think that's right. :-) Glad you checked back here. I was stewing over letting you down all night! I'd love to see your cupcakes if you get a chance to photo them.

Suzy, Congratulations ... I had no idea that you had a blog.

I remember your discussion about the title (which I love and always reminds me of my mother ... she never made brown gravy without Kitchen Bouquet).

I found you as a link from another blog.

Thanks Jain, Cynthia, Kathleen and Marsha! Glad y'all found me here. I wasn't hiding...reallllyyy...I was just being shy! Ya that's it lol.

Marsha I love all of the blogs I have listed..they are my favs. I have a longer list that I peek in on regularly, but those are the best I think. Do you use Bloglines? It's a website that lets you see at a glance if there is something new on your fav blogs and actually lets you see the posts at that website rather than having to actually go to the sites. It will link you to them if you want to go. www.bloglines.com It's an easy way to subscribe to a blog.
